A team of intrepid fundraisers from EV Cargo Global Forwarding has defied lockdown by embarking on a mammoth virtual trek from Asia to Europe.
They aim to travel over 6,000 miles – the equivalent of Hong Kong to Liverpool – by walking, running, cycling and swimming, as part of a three-week challenge to bag as many miles as possible. By doing so, they will be supporting the Mark Edwards Foundation, designed to assist young people in the achievement and development of amateur sporting excellence.
The Foundation was set up in memory of Mark Edwards, a much-loved member of the supply chain management team, who died of cancer in 2017. Funds raised are distributed as grants to be used for clothing, equipment, sports education, coaching, mentoring and club membership fees.
Organiser Dan Weston said: “Mark was a pillar of the SCM team. He was also was a great character with a particular love of rugby, football and cricket and the Foundation is a way of not only remembering him, but also helping sporting youngsters to achieve their dreams.
“Obviously it’s been difficult this year, but everyone has pulled together to do their bit virtually – and so far we’ve racked up over 4,000 miles and raised £1800.”
Over the last three years the Foundation has helped dozens of sports-mad youngsters in the UK, including mixed martial arts student Scarlett Awoyale, 10, gymnast Montana Leith-Mulley, 12, and student Clark Lawless, who received funding towards a white-water rafting trainer’s course.
