EV Cargo truck driver Marlon Lessey has won one of the UK road transport industry’s top awards after being named Microlise Compliant Driver of the Year.

The Microlise Driver of the Year Awards celebrate the most talented logistics drivers working in the UK transport industry and acknowledge the vital work these drivers carry out, enhancing road safety, demonstrating best practice and upholding the reputation of the logistics sector.

Marlon, who is based at EV Cargo’s Amesbury site, was nominated for the award after Microlise’s analysis of his Truetac data showed he was 100% compliant.

EV Cargo prioritises the safety and wellbeing of all its colleagues and Marlon’s victory highlights the focus the company places on safety, workplace skills and regulatory compliance.

Marlon received his award at a gala dinner at the Coventry Building Society Arena and also won a Porsche Experience Driving Day at Silverstone.

Described as a ‘genuine go-to’ driver, Marlon is quick-thinking, extremely calm and methodical under pressure. He is often tasked with mentoring drivers who are new to the team, passing on his skillset to others for the benefit of all.

Before becoming a driver, Marlon spent six years as a military drone pilot.

EV Cargo Transport Manager Darren Butterworth said he was proud of Marlon’s achievement, adding: “This is a hugely significant nomination and the first time the EV Cargo depot at Amesbury has had a finalist in the Microlise awards.

“Marlon is absolutely delighted and can’t wait for his track day with Porsche. His dedication to his craft is second to none; he is known by the operations team as Mr Microlise, such is the care he takes in all aspects of his job with us.”

Richard Smith, Managing Director of the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and member of this year’s judging panel, said: “The shortlisted drivers represent everything that is good about our industry and their efforts fully deserve to be celebrated.

“Drivers do not only bear the responsibility for delivery and collection fulfilment. They are also the front line inroad safety, the customer’s face-to-face liaison, and ultimately an operator’s brand ambassador.”

Established in 1982, Microlise Group Plc is a leading provider of telematics and fleet management solutions. Its technology is designed to help businesses improve efficiency, reduce emissions, lower costs, and increase safety on the road.
