EV Cargo’s CM Downton has continued its run of new business wins by sealing a multi-million-pound logistics contract with Smurfit Kappa, introducing another new customer to its expanding portfolio.
It has commenced a new three-year deal with Smurfit Kappa, transporting packaging products from two manufacturing sites in the south-west. The contract has excellent synergies with Downton’s current contracts in the region and will help enhance efficiency and further reduce empty mileage.
By leveraging technology expertise within EV Cargo, Downton will deliver continuous improvement for Smurfit Kappa and help streamline transport operations. To maximise load-fill, Downton is investing in 30 bespoke, tall trailers for the contract and will trial the use of longer semi-trailers.
Zac Brown, CM Downton managing director, said: “Aligned with EV Cargo, the Downton strategy is focused on growth and delivering supply chain solutions powered by innovation and technology. The addition of this major new contract with Smurfit Kappa has marked our intentions for the year. Leveraging the combined expertise of EV Cargo enables Downton to compete for and secure significant new business.”
Howard Ellison, Smurfit Kappa UK supply chain director, said: “The CM Downton team brings a wealth of experience in the logistics sector. We are looking forward to working collaboratively to help us deliver a sustainable solution to all our valued customers.”
