EV Cargo’s logistics company CM Downton have invested £5 million into a raft of new 19-plate trucks which are set to hit the road today.

Sixty new DAF XF 480 FTG 6×2 tractor units supplied by Imperial Commercials in Gloucester will come online as the company, part of UK logistics giant EV Cargo, expands its fleet to cope with growing volumes and new business wins. Twenty units will hit the road today with an additional 40 units planned during March and April.

All meet the latest Euro 6 regulations around emissions and will ensure that 93 per cent of the Downton fleet is compliant with upcoming stringent rules around low emission zones, reducing the company’s impact on the environment and helping customers meet their sustainability targets.

The tractors are loaded with state-of-the-art safety technology such as lane assist and driver aids to help monitor and reduce fuel consumption – and will be used across the firm’s national operations network.

Downton is also refreshing its trailer fleet by adding 100 new curtain-side Tiger Trailers emblazoned with the firm’s traditional colours and subtle new EV Cargo dual-branding.

Zac Brown, CM Downton operations director, said: “As part of the EV Cargo group, we have the resource to invest across all areas of the business and the new trucks and trailers will ensure we have the latest technology to deliver sector-leading logistics in the most sustainable way possible. Responding to recent contract wins and a flourishing business portfolio, this fleet expansion will ensure the high quality of service the Downton name is renowned for.”
