A team from CM Downton was taught a cricketing lesson when it took on some of Gloucestershire’s top disabled players. It was the fourth successive defeat for Downton in the annual fixture against their old rivals from the Gloucestershire County Cricket Board, staged as part of the company’s ongoing sponsorship of disability cricket.
Jack Green, son of warehouse project leader Chris Green, smashed a defiant half-century – but his fellow batsmen could only add 99 between them as Downton slumped to 150 all out chasing the opposition’s impressive total of 186-8.
Despite the result skipper Phil Arnold, who scored a creditable 17, said he was pleased with his side’s performance.
“We were up against a crack team who train twice a week and really know how to play,” he said. “But it was a great day out and it was very sporting of them to lend us three players.”
GCCB currently has two disability teams at county level. Downton has sponsored both since 2015, providing funding to purchase kit and cover match-day costs.
